In 2021, the Massachusetts Paid Family Medical Leave law is a state-run program that will provide paid family and medical leave benefits to employees. This law applies to almost all employers with employees in Massachusetts. These benefits will also be available to solo practitioners, independent contractors and other small business owners with businesses in Massachusetts. The Greater Newburyport Bar Association has asked me to present a seminar on this new law to provide participants an overview of this new law and discuss how it will impact employer leave policies and discuss eligibility requirements, employer responsibilities, and written notification requirements that employers must provide to their existing employees and independent contractors by September 30, 2019.
